Tzukim was established in the Arava in 1996, as a pioneering yishuv. It wasn’t just any agricultural community, as its members had a deep yearning to connect to the land through their own creativity and initiative. Gradually, through the resident’s dedication to their dream, Tzukim became a hub for local community businesses. It now includes an artists village, a brewery, a center for wellness workshops, a certification program for ecological building, and a boutique cafe!
And let’s not forget the film festival which started eight years ago, also through the initiative of Tzukim residents and the support of the Jewish Agency of Australia. At this open-air film festival, the directors of the films are usually sitting among the crowd, so that the audience can engage with them after the film. Did we say pioneers?! סיפורו של פסטיבל הסרטים בצוקים, הוא סיפורה של חלוציות מודרנית שחולמת בגדול!
היישוב צוקים נוסד בערבה התיכונה בשנת 1996 כיישוב חלוצי מסוגו. לא עוד מושב או קיבוץ המבוססים על עבודה חקלאית אלא יישוב קהילתי שלתושביו יש רצון להתחבר לאדמה ואנשים דרך יצירה ויזמות. הרעיון להסתמך על תיירות מקומית שתצרוך את היוזמות (ובעצם להאמין שאנשים שיסכימו להדרים כל כך רק עבורן) היה, ועודנו- חלוצי במהותו. צוקים הפכה ל’חממה’ קהילתית-עסקית המפתחת תחומי עיסוק מגוונים בערבה, במסגרתה הוקמו כפר אמנים, מבשלת בירה, סדנאות לגוף ולנפש, מרכז הכשרות לבנייה באדמה, מעדניות בוטיק ואפילו כאמור- פסטיבל סרטים!
הפסטיבל הוקם לפני שמונה שנים ביוזמתו של תושב צוקים אייל שיראי, ובתמיכתה של שותפות ערבה תיכונה-אוסטרליה, כאשר ייחודו הוא בעובדה כי מתקיים תחת כיפת השמיים וכי הסרטים המוצגים בו מלווים ברובם ביוצריהם שמקיימים לאחר מכן שיח עם הקהל. חלוצי, כבר אמרנו?
