Written in the “waiting period” before the Six Day War, this upbeat song was written by Haim Hefer and performed by Arik Lavi to mock the Egyptian president and boost national morale at a time when the Israeli public was full of fear and anxiety over the impending war. The title and chorus of the song, “Nasser is Waiting for Rabin” refers to the aggressive declaration by Egyptian President Gamal Abdel Nasser on May 21, 1967, that he was ready and waiting for Yitzhak Rabin, the Chief of Staff of the IDF, to try fight the Egyptian army.
