The Walls Surrounding the Old City of Jerusalem

In this video [10:36] produced by i24NEWS, an Israel-based international news channel, tour guide Asaf Salomon explains the history of the walls encompassing the Old City of Jerusalem, rebuilt by the Ottomans primarily for protective reasons in the 1500s. Today visitors can walk along the ramparts and peer down into the densely populated Old City, or across the modern city of Jerusalem. Since 1033, the Old City has been divided into four quarters, Armenian, Muslim, Christian, and Jewish. In 1948, when Israel won its independence, Jerusalem was still divided between Israel and Jordan, yet after the Six-Day War in 1967, Israel recaptured Jerusalem and gained control of the city.
