Published in the LA Times in 2004, toward the end of the Second Intifada, this article reveals the overwhelming sentiment among Palestinians that the violent uprising against Israel accomplished little for their cause, and perhaps even made their situation worse. Through interviews with Palestinian militants, the article explains that they not only lost on a military level, but also destroyed any groundwork for an independent Palestinian state, along with the civil institutions, economy and infrastructure of Palestinian society. Due to their tactics of suicide bombings and operating from civilian neighborhoods, they provoked an aggressive IDF response, lost global support, and contributed to the collapse of peace talks and the construction of the security barrier.
