These original videos show different examples of protest methods used by the Israeli Black Panthers, a social protest group formed in the 1970s by Jewish immigrants from North Africa fighting against racial discrimination and their poor socio-economic status in Israeli society. Despite their poor quality, these clips show valuable footage of the group in action. Filmed in April 1971, the above video (01:30) shows members of the movement holding a hunger strike at the Western Wall in Jerusalem.
Filmed in 1973, the following video (04:35) shows demonstrators marching with mock coffins through the streets of Jerusalem, representing the death of democracy and justice in Israeli society.
Filmed in 1979, the following video (02:45) shows a demonstration in the West Bank settlement of Elazar protesting the channeling of government funds into the development of settlements instead of the socio-economic issues facing the Mizrahi population.
