This flyer encourages the public to attend a massive rally in Tel Aviv, two weeks prior to the December 1973 elections in which the Black Panthers social protest movement failed to win seats in the Israeli parliament. The flyer, translated below by Saul Jay Singer, outlines some of the main social and economic issues against which the Mizrahi Jewish group were fighting, including racial discrimination and poor living conditions and education for their community. WE’RE FED UP!!!
We’re fed up with 5-10 children living in a single room! We’re fed up with having 2-3 children sleeping in a single bed! We’re fed up with living with low salaries that are not sufficient to meet all family needs! We’re fed up with deteriorating to a pulp because of failed education!
WE WILL TOLERATE IT NO LONGER!!!
We will no longer tolerate embezzlement and corruption! We will no longer tolerate the waste of millions of dollars of community funds! We will no longer tolerate people getting wealthy at the expense of the little guy, who lacks protection! We will no longer tolerate the ministers’ living their ostentatious lives at our expense!
THE GOVERNMENT HAS GONE MORALLY BANKRUPT!
The recent embezzlement and corruption are the result of a criminal economic policy of the heads of the government and at their head is the Treasurer Pinchas Sapir!
Thousands of youths are serving in prisons as the result of failing education when the real criminals – the leaders of the Education Ministry – wander around freely without hindrance!
ENOUGH ENOUGH ENOUGH!!!
Enough poverty! Enough running around in circles! Enough discrimination!
