Israeli Sitcom ‘Nevsu’ Wins Emmy Award

This i24NEWS interview (2:25) with ‘Nevsu‘ star Yossi Vasa and his wife Yarden touches on some of the real-life experiences informing the Emmy-winning series. The sitcom follows the lives of an interracial family: Gili (Vasa) is of Ethiopian origin and is married to Tamar (Meyrav Feldman), who is of Ashkenazi origin. Together, they are raising their 5-year-old daughter. Cultural clashes and misunderstandings, as well as overt racism, abound in the series which tackles challenging themes in a comedic manner. Many of the story lines are based Vasa’s own life as an Ethipoian-Israeli married to an Ashkenazi woman. The show is currently being adapted for an American audience under the title ‘Culture Clash.’ The series is being directed by the executive producer of ‘Modern Family’ and is set to air on Fox.
