First Israeli Book to Win Man Booker Prize

Israeli writer David Grossman and his English translator Jessica Cohen took home the U.K.-hosted prize for A Horse Walks into a Bar – a novel about a stand-up comedian who faces a mmajor personal crisis during his routine which leads to a series of revelations. Besides the Man Booker, Grossman’s jaw-dropping list of awards includes the Israel Prize (2018), the St. Louis Literary Award (2015), the JQ Wingate Prize (2011, 2004), the Peace Prize of the German Book Trade (2010), and the Frankfurt Peace Prize (2010), among many others. Grossman’s fiction, non-fiction, and children’s literature have been translated into 36 languages.
