Beresheet: A Spacecraft to Inspire the Next Generation Of Israeli Youth

i24 NEWS, an Israeli international news channel, reports in this video on the motivation behind the creation of the Israeli Spacecraft, Beresheet. Though Beresheet ultimately crash-landed on the Moon’s surface rather than landing smoothly, this spacecraft still made history. It was the first spacecraft to be funded by private donors– at the remarkably low cost of $100 million– and also to have such a low weight, of 1,290 pounds. Inspired by the late Ilan Ramon, the first Israeli astronaut, the Beresheet engineers hope to excite the next generation of youth to pursue studies and careers in science, space, and technology.
