Designed for Masa participants, this thorough Yom HaZikaron educational program (in English, Hebrew, Spanish and Russian) provides activities that commemorate Israel’s fallen soldiers and victims of terror, while confronting the challenges of how this national Israeli day of mourning should be marked by Jewish communities around the world who often feel unable to relate. Although the content unit is based on the traditional Masa Yom HaZikaron ceremony, the activities can also stand on their own, relevant for those who will not be viewing the ceremony or will only be viewing it after the fact. With readings, images, songs, poetry, art and more, this Activity Kit includes a pre-viewing activity exploring the theme of “fragments of memory” from the personal, national-social and broader Jewish angles, an activity to help process the ceremony, and a Havdalah ceremony designed to navigate the stark emotional and intellectual transition from the mourning of Yom HaZikaron to the celebration of Yom Ha’atzmaut.
